"I got a job!".
For the past 3 months, I have be seriously looking hard for a good paying job in the downtown/city area. Coming back from a "6 month Vegas vacation", it was hard to adjust back to the fast-paced city life again. I started waking up daily at 7:30-8am, calling companies, emailing HR people, networking on twitter & it got so frustrating after a while. It was like living groundhog day over & over again. One guy called me from a steel company and right away told me he wanted to bring me in for an interview. He told me that the job was a sales role downtown and I asked him about the salary range. He got offended. I then explained to him that a lot of the jobs on craigslist have a starting salary of 25-30k and I was not looking for anything like that. He then told me that its bad to ask about salary over the phone and that his company was not for me. I hung up on him. Another company told me a higher salary over the phone than what they offered at the interview. These are only a few of the frustrations that I dealt with.
One Sunday, I went out to lunch with my friends Iman & Kevin at Rockit downtown. Iman ran into an old friend of his who happened to be working for a logistics company in Lincoln Park and told me to email him my resume. Within 2 days I did and a few weeks later I was asked in for an interview. This office was pretty much a replica of my last job. When I left the 1st interview, I was so confident that I would be working for this company. Something told me that this was the perfect fit for me & for the company. I haven't worked in almost a year now, and I am craving the chance to make some serious money. I went in for a 2nd interview this week and was offered the job on the spot. Not only is it exactly what i'm looking for, its also more money and endless opportunity with a growing company.
The rest of this week will include having fun with my friends, loading up on as much sleep as possible. Because next week starts a 7am-5pm daily schedule. I've been ready for this for a long time and can't wait to make some serious money.
My advice to anyone out there who is looking for a job is to get out there and network as much as possible. My opportunity came at a very random time. I was only trying to eat a Rockit burger and truffle fries, and ended up with a job out of it (and buying a Gibsons dinner for the crew I was with to thank them for hooking it up of course).
To all those haters out there that are constantly talking about me, please keep doing so. I will hear about it and it only motivates me to work harder and be a better person. Always remember that you are you who your friends are, and to surround yourself with positive, successful people. Regardless, I only have a few words left to say.
I have a job.

Haha, nice dude. Congrats. Can't wait to see what your lifestyle is like once you start making some "serious money." Good luck next week.

Ah completely agree with the Salary stuff. Especially in LA, companies and business owners think that you should be thankful they are giving you time of the day with a shitty pay, when in Fact 90% of LA is ran by morons. U know I love my fashion... few months back I had an interview for Corporate Visual Merchandising position for Forever21.. 5 interviews later they ask me how much I want to make and cut me when i tell them. BS!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the job :)
